When we bought our house we knew it was stuck back in the 70’s and going to need a lot of work inside. I thought documenting it would help keep me motivated and be an easy way to share the updates with friends and family. We love this house and are so thankful to have it.

A few more makeover projects that we completed:

garage door facelift

Kickplate detail

Tip: I picked a 3 pack of these up at Target for $2.99.
They were on the endcap around the kitchen/bathroom towels.
I think they are called “mitted wash cloths”.
They make for great dog/kitty paw cleaners.

and finally a shot of our living room wall beside the fireplace.

We worked hard over the weekend to repaint the fireplace. The original fireplace was cool, but seemed dark and dirty for my tastes. We scrubbed it and spent about 8 hours painting nearly 2 gallons of masonry/brick paint. TIP: (home depot has a 5$ rebate for each gallon of Behr purchased through the 21st).The second part of the project was to replace the old metal cover. We found decorative metal sheets that fit perfectly. The fireplace is gas so it’s really just decorative. $30 fix. We priced modern screens online between 100-300$.

I love seeing these. The cabinets look very nice white. Boy you did that fast, Kim. You should put in a picture of the wood wall that you stained. That really made a big difference too.
Love, Steph
saw your kitchen on apartment therapy - can you briefly describe what you had to do to refinish the cabinets? I’ve got some hideous oak and no first hand accounts of doing the work…
what type of primer/paint did you use? and any special spray paint for the hinges?
thanks and it looks great!!
Pretty Margot!
hi! i love the metal screens that you used for the fireplace and kitchen cabinets. they seem to be just the right size! did you find it at home depot?
